Ben-Gvir Plans To Designate Global Sumud Flotilla Activists As “Terrorists”, Seize Boats

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BEN-GVIR THREATENS TO DESIGNATE GLOBAL SUMUD FLOTILLA ACTIVISTS AS “TERRORISTS,” SEIZE VESSELS

September 4, 2025

In a matter of days, the Global Sumud Flotilla is expected to reach the shores of Tunisia, where it will be joined by additional vessels before continuing its journey toward Gaza, carrying life-saving humanitarian aid. Despite escalating threats from Israeli officials, the coalition affirms that its mission remains humanitarian, lawful, and resolute.

The Global Sumud Flotilla strongly condemns recent statements by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who has threatened to designate participants as “terrorists” and seize flotilla vessels. These threats are baseless, unjust, and represent a serious violation of international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions. Such rhetoric reflects a broader pattern of criminalizing humanitarian action and suppressing global solidarity with the Palestinian people.

For decades, Israeli authorities have employed tactics aimed at delegitimizing and silencing those who challenge the occupation—targeting not only Palestinians but also journalists, medical personnel, and international activists. The current threats against the flotilla are part of this ongoing strategy, intended to intimidate those engaged in peaceful, humanitarian efforts.

Under international law, Gaza’s Mediterranean coastline belongs to the people of Gaza, who have the right to receive vessels, goods, and individuals through their territorial waters. Palestinians are entitled to exercise sovereignty over their maritime resources, including for trade, fishing, and travel. However, since 2007, Gaza has been subjected to a comprehensive blockade by land, sea, and air, with devastating humanitarian consequences.

The Global Sumud Flotilla brings together participants from 44 countries, including doctors, nurses, elected officials, journalists, and human rights advocates. The coalition’s sole objective is to deliver urgently needed food, water, and medical supplies to civilians facing a severe humanitarian crisis.

The flotilla calls on the international community, the United Nations, and governments worldwide to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities by ensuring safe passage for this humanitarian mission. Independent observers and members of the media are also invited to join the voyage to promote transparency and accountability.

No threat, intimidation, or attempt at defamation will deter this mission. The Global Sumud Flotilla remains committed to delivering aid and standing in solidarity with the people of Gaza.

One Month Later- Free The Tunisian 7

On March 6th, 2026, an arrest campaign was started that shook the pro-Palestinian landscape in Tunisia. Seven activists, some of whom put their own bodies on the line for the possibility of breaking the illegal siege on Gaza, were arrested and sent to prison on what appear to be unfounded charges. Let’s say their names: Jawaher Channa, Wael Nawar, Ghassan Henchiri, Ghassan Boughediri, Sana Msahli, Dr. Mohamed Amine Ben Nour, Nabil Chennoufi.

There Are a Thousand Ways to Kneel and Kiss the Ground

Movements fall apart not only because they are attacked and suppressed from the outside. They are also fractured, gradually or explosively, from within. Too often, when internal difference is turned into suspicion, judgement and competition, we end up spending more energy scrutinizing one another than actually confronting the forces that are destroying people’s lives. This is not accidental. It’s foundational to empire.
